2012 Summary and Scores

Now that the 2012 Century Challenge is in the books, we want to thank everyone for their participation, and invite you to join us again this year.

In 2012, the second year of the DLCCC, we doubled participation (from 25 participants in 2011), attracting 50 climbers to the cause, all the way from south of Chicago to Eau Claire, with Madison and Milwaukee area climbers making up the majority. We also more than doubled the amount of money raised, writing a check to the Friends of Devil’s Lake for $1100.

Ten of you completed a century, climbing over 100 unique routes or boulder problems at the Lake, receiving a “Devils Lake Century Challenge” Petzl Attache locking ‘biner for the accomplishment. Full scores are attached below – for those that climbed more than 100 routes in a category, “points” refers to the cumulative score from the top 100 climbs. Participants turned in scorecards with a total of 1982 ticks on 864 unique routes and problems from all round the park.

35 people attended the final party and awards dinner last Saturday at Boulders gym (some driving a couple hours to make it), most of whom also made it to the after-party at Karben4 brewery. Raffle prizes included: gift cards from Fontana Sports, Wildside, Glass Nickel Pizza and Erehwon Mountain Outfitters, cases of Ballistic IPA from Ale Asylum, Osprey packs, tubs of Mike’s Mix recovery drink, and memberships to Turners Climbing Gym.
We had a great time keeping this event rolling into its second year, and are very appreciative of our sponsors for helping make this happen again. Planning for 2013 is nearly complete, and we hope to make this year’s effort better than the last. Watch this spot in the coming weeks for the registration announcement for the 2013 DLCCC! Or send us an email at uwmtnrs gmail com and we’ll let you know when registration is ready to go.

Devil’s Lake Century Challenge 2012

Following the success of last year’s Devil’s Lake Centennial Climbing Challenge, Hoofer Mountaineering club has decided, once again, to organize a climbing fundraiser for Devil’s Lake. This year, the Devil’s Lake Century Climbing Challenge hopes to exceed last year’s $500 donation to the Friends of Devil’s Lake, a local nonprofit that supports activities and maintenance at Devil’s Lake State Park.

The goal of the event is to challenge individuals to explore and experience Devil’s Lake by attempting to climb 100 routes in 2012, and to give back to the area by supporting Friends of Devil’s Lake. There are three categories – top-rope, lead, and boulder. One hundred unique routes can be completed in one or more of these categories. You can keep track of your routes by downloading a scorecard here. While climbing 100 routes is the goal, it is by no means necessary for participation. The primary purpose of this event is to give back to Devil’s Lake and ensure access for future climbers.

With your minimum $35 donation, you will receive a 2012 Devil’s Lake Century Climbing Challenge t-shirt, as well as a booklet full of coupons from our sponsors including: Adventure Rock, Boulders, Wildside, Fontana, Marty’s Pizza, Erehwon Mountain Outfitters, Osprey, Marmot, Turner’s Gym and Glass Nickel Pizza.

Check back often for updates! Registration will be opening in the coming week. For more information, please visit explore this website or email uwmtnrs@gmail.com. Be sure to like us on facebook and follow us on Twitter!
